    Hebe October Round-Up

Leeds Fashion Show award winner Crystal Padmore takes to the catwalk

Wow! What a month that was! We had a seriously interesting October both on the blog and in general Hebe life. Here is a quick look back at the month that was all about big news and fashion!

In October we announced a new relationship that we are really excited about. Hebe Media has been appointed the 'preferred digital supplier' and 'brand ambassador' by Land Securities for the new Trinity Leeds scheme. We are really looking forward to working with the Land Securities team over the coming months and there are some seriously cool projects in the pipeline and a couple that are already underway.

The first of those was the sponsorship of Leeds Fashion Show 2011 by Trinity Leeds. This something we are really proud of. Leeds Fashion Show is such a great project created by great people and the fact that Trinity Leeds have come in and added support is really good news. Hopefully this is just the start of the relationship and next year we can do even more together. We took along the 'T' to meet and greet some of the Leeds' fashion crowd in the first part of the 'Taking the T into Leeds' campaign.

Speaking of fashion, we put out a 2-part feature on Leeds Fashion Scene. The first part looked at the current situation and what was going on here. The second part looked at the future and how we might improve our position in the global fashion scene. We knew it would ruffle a few feathers and it certainly did! The reaction has been amazing. In addition to all the comments, likes and tweets about the posts we also received lots of private emails, DMs and messages. We have to say that the overall feedback has been along the lines of 'well said' and 'right lets do this!' which is exactly the response we hoped for. There are new plans cooking now around this and we will be making some announcements soon.

On the blog earlier in the month we posted the new video from our favourite Swede (sorry The PapAdam Tensta, which as per usual is ace!

Looking forward, if October was all about fashion then November is all about film. Today we will be announcing a new film competition involving Left Eye Blind, Trinity Leeds and Everyman Cinemas. The project is the second project in the 'Taking the T into Leeds' campaign. We think it is going to be amazing. As with the Leeds Fashion Show project, supporting and highlighting brilliant Leeds projects and talent sits right at the heart of what we are doing.

Keeping on the film tip, we are proud to have some of our projects supporting the Leeds International Film Festival this year. Hebe Media, LOL! Leeds Online and UK Observing Diary will all be playing a role in supporting the festival and it's team. We will also be sponsoring a film, that we will announce today! We must at this point give a shout out to Kay Brown, who is an absolute star! Without people like Kay we would not have projects like this in the city, we are lucky to have her here.

Stay tuned during November for more exciting announcements around new projects and partnerships that we are currently finalising.

    See you again soon!

Hebe Media x Land Securities (Official Press Release)

Leeds based Hebe Media has announced today that it has been appointed by Land Securities as the preferred digital supplier and brand ambassador for Trinity Leeds, which will open in the centre of Leeds in spring 2013.

Speaking about the appointment, Claire Reynolds, Marketing Manager for Land Securities said: "We are pleased to be working with Hebe Media as our digital specialists and have lots of exciting projects on the horizon together. It is an important appointment for our Trinity Leeds team as digital sits at the heart of our communication strategy and we are keen to support Leeds talent with one of the best digital agencies in the region"

"We have been talking to Land Securities about how we can work in partnership with them and the Trinity Leeds team, and are excited about our appointment", said Lee Hicken from Hebe Media. "Trinity Leeds represents a massive opportunity for Leeds and the potential goes way beyond just a great shopping experience."

Hebe Media is only 18 months old but has already developed a strong track record, managing communications for a world-leading digital school, Hyper Island, and owning two of the biggest and most active online networks in the city. LOL! Leeds Online, a network for the people of Leeds, reaches over 50 thousand people and UK Observing Diary, which speaks to an audience in the Far East about life in Leeds and London, reaches almost 90 thousand people with an incredible 10 million views each month.

"We are a team of trend researchers, fashion and lifestyle bloggers, content creators, event producers and more", adds Hicken. "This gives us a broad perspective on communications, particularly in relation to digital culture. We look forward to helping make some amazing things happen for the benefit of Trinity Leeds and the city as a whole."

The Trinity Leeds scheme has over 120 retailers and restaurateurs covering 1 million square feet and will bring big international brands and boutiques to Leeds, alongside a number of stylish restaurant and leisure operators. This urban city centre development will be a dynamic, evolving shopping experience and is set to become a retail beacon for the UK when it opens in spring 2013.

STP's Far East Feature: Kung Fu

Today I was kicked in the back of the chair by someone here in the Hebe Media office. It made me want to get my Kung Fu on! It also got me thinking of some of the great Kung Fu movies I used to watch as a kid.

Kung Fu, played such an important role in the Far East movie movement. In 1949, a of bunch of martial arts academies put together a fund to shoot a film about a legendary hero Wong Fei-Hung with not just acting, but actual kung fu fights in it. Since then, Kung Fu movies grew in popularity. Every decade, there were new Kung Fu stars to take the genre to the next level. The greatest star of all was Bruce Lee, his brand new performing style attracted global attention. After he died, all the studios tried to create a different Kung Fu star to fill his spot, including Jackie Chan. But people weren't buying it, no one can replace Bruce Lee.

"After Bruce Lee passed away, the whole movie industry went down. Everyone thinks he is the best, no one wanted to watch other Kung Fu movies, I was very disappointed at the time." - Jackie Chan

Luckily, a few years later they found back into people's hearts: Kung Fu comedy. And finally, Jackie Chan's career took off from this point. In the 80s, Kung Fu became a great support for action films, a few action directors even made it to the Hollywood and are still playing important roles there like Yuen Woo-ping for Matrix, Charlie's Angel, etc. Jet Li became famous afterwards in the 90s by playing the legend Wong Fei-Hung.

Some people think that one of the popular themes in Kung Fu movies, you know the one, where the Kung Fu master beats some foreigner, are a comfort for the memories of the Chinese being invaded by foreign intruders. For kids (like me!), Kung Fu characters were just like Superman for us, giving us the feeling of knowing someone out there with great power, is fighting the big man and protecting us. And also it is just a lot of fun to learn from the tv how to Kick people in the face with style ;)

    Estrellas: 3/5
Lugar: The Vue (en el centro comercial The Light, Leeds)
